Fidelis Diagnostics Launches New Sleep Study Program for the Trucking Industry to Test for Sleep Apnea

Fidelis Diagnostics, Inc., a rapidly growing healthcare company providing innovative diagnostic services nationally, launches a new nationwide program offering on-the-go sleep studies for the trucking industry. Using WatchPAT, a unique and patented portable sleep study device, trucking companies can provide the diagnostic test for sleep apnea, a serious, potentially life-threatening sleep-related breathing disorder.

Sleep disorders, including Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), affects nearly 23 million working Americans and can have hazardous effects on health and quality of life.  Symptoms can range from high blood pressure and other cardiovascular disorders to cognitive weakening, headaches, degradation of social and work-related activities, and increased risk of car and work-related accidents. Shift workers, including truck drivers, bus drivers, police officers and fire personnel, are most likely to suffer from sleep related disorders and should be tested.

“Studies show that 33 percent of commercial truck drivers suffer from Sleep Apnea, and they are five times more likely to be involved in a serious highway accident due to the sleeplessness and lack of ability to concentrate that are associated with apnea,” said Amir London, COO for Fidelis Diagnostics. “We believe that using the WatchPAT technology at the driver’s convenience makes the test more convenient as there is no need to be referred to a sleep lab. This will raise testing compliance, and also lower insurance and health care costs for trucking companies, which can ultimately lead to safer roads for everyone.”

The WatchPAT is an innovative, clinically proven, FDA-approved in home sleep study device providing accurate detection of sleep apnea. The device comes with a tamper proof ID bracelet allowing complete chain-of-custody tracking for those being tested.
